Testimonial
"Recently back from another great workshop with Gary. Having done a few workshops with Gary over the years, I have always been impressed by his professionalism, knowledge of the area, best time to be there, ability to read the weather. And off course best lens and filter combination to get the image. Whatever the weather his workshops are a joy to be on, sharing his knowledge, ideas and techniques makes the workshop, showing you an image even when you didn't think there was one. After a full days photography there's always a lovely hotel to go back to, where you can rest and review your images.
Thank you Gary, and look forward to more workshops with you."

Small Isles and Skye Workshop Outline

The Tour
This is a twin location workshop in the Highlands and Islands. Taking in the Isle of Eigg and then onto the iconic Isle of Skye.
We meet in Glencoe for the first hotel and start our photography around the mountains of Glencoe.
The next day we head off to catch the ferry in Mallaig and the Isle of Eigg. We are based here for 3 days before moving onto the amazing Isle of Skye. This gives us superb opportunities to take photographs of the most iconic locations and at some of the most stunning locations Scotland has to offer.

We will spend the week the second half of the week shooting around the Isle of Skye and with our location there is also opportunity to venture into Torridon, shooting Liathach and Applecross.

Small Workshop Group Size
A large part of my courses are about learning to see where an image is going to develop and looking at the landscape with a new eye for composition. As I only take small group's of photographers to the locations, we can easily stop along the routes to make images all through the day.
This workshop comprises of a 7 night workshop with a two centre base of the Small Isles and the Isle of Skye.
The workshop includes, Dinner, bed and breakfast.
All photographic transport and ferry crossing fees.

All accommodation is single room with no sharing.

We start this tour in Glencoe, a mecca for photographer's, stunning all year round and a superb place to begin any landscape venture. We will have a great opportunity to photograph the mountains and glens with a good dusting of snow. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the next day we move onto the Isle of Skye, quite possibly the pinnacle of landscape photography in the UK. To stand in such dramatic surroundings is quite breathtaking.

Elgol by Mark Constable
Some of the Locations we will visit, The Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, Elgol are all captured in this workshop of Skye. The course is aimed at people who want to improve their photography and composition at all levels. You may have a good understanding of photography and simply want to be guided to breathtaking scenery to add stunning new photos to your portfolio.

Relaxed approach
All the workshops we run are based on a very relaxed format to make the most of your time and importantly enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I don't chase around the countryside from one location to another. This course is also about learning to slow down and study with your eyes. Understanding what is happening in nature and the weather patterns is a huge part of taking a great photograph. I will show you to use your eye's and resolve the compositional puzzle that is presented at each new location we visit. I will also give you an insight on how to read the weather so you know when to anticipate dynamic light.

What you need
Bring along the camera equipment you are most familiar with and have a good understanding of its basic settings. Most cameras work in a simular way so I can help with some of the finer points.

It can be digital or film, I use both, the only point I would add here is that it is nice to view the days photographs in the evening all together, digital photography allows for this activity.

Fitness- The photography does require some moderate hill walking so a little fitness is required, a pair of walking boots and Wellingtons would be beneficial.
Waterproofs - Just in case.
