Testimonial
"Recently back from another great workshop with Gary. Having done a few workshops with Gary over the years, I have always been impressed by his professionalism, knowledge of the area, best time to be there, ability to read the weather. And off course best lens and filter combination to get the image. Whatever the weather his workshops are a joy to be on, sharing his knowledge, ideas and techniques makes the workshop, showing you an image even when you didn't think there was one. After a full days photography there's always a lovely hotel to go back to, where you can rest and review your images.
Thank you Gary, and look forward to more workshops with you."

December 2020

No Christmas Fayre this year, moved to 2021, so it leaves more time to work on the stock and framing.

Have a great Christmas break, keep it quiet this year and here's to a better 2021.

November 2020

Back into Lockdown so no workshops with year in November, got in a little local photography early in the month before it kicked it in. All this time at the computer is doing wonders for scouring the archives and old hard drives. It's fascinating going through all the images and locations. Always turns up some interesting photos and memories. Sometimes I look at angles and think "did I take that" ?

October 2020

I seem to spending quite a bit of time jiggling the diary and rescheduling workshops. There seems plenty of colour around, so you can get out with the camera on your own, some nice images to make. A few misty mornings as well which is great.

I've got the 8 x 10 ready to pounce on the conditions, the dark slides are loaded up and the large tripod. Along with the yoga mat to sort my back out when I come back!!

Autumn in the Lake District

August 2020

Some amazing lightning shows around Shropshire so far in August. with the prolonged heat, it has created some continuous rolling lightning and thunder storms, and I mean continous, the storm just carried on for nearly two hours overhead and around the county. Quite unbelievable. Not quite the American midwest but still hypnotic to watch. I took the camera into the back garden and shot the lightning storm firing off the edge of the supercell above the house.

July 2020

You never know what weather you will get in the Lakes in July, that sort of stands true for most of the year, what you can guarantee, it does usually involve rain, it then just depends on how much. After any rainy night though, I urge everyone to get out early. The calm next morning is superb. With the temperature change there is always a little soft mist on the water, it brings out the fresh smells of the plants and trees, it is quite intoxicating.

June 2020

With my annual Iceland trip in June postponed until summer 2021, I thought I would patrol the garden with my old Canon vintage 50mm. Usually I have everyone shooting great open vista of Lupins, with Icelandic mountains as the backdrop.

Using the morning sun to backlight the garden flowers. Shot wide open which gives that beautiful diffused feel. Could be a tv advert from the 1970's ! I should have been eating a Flake. Can you still buy a Flake? I need to look that up.

Anyone interested in Iceland June 2021, I have one space left, maximum 5 attendees.

If you would like more information, just drop me an email, link below

May 2020

As we continue in lockdown, the camera is confined to the house and garden, the flowers are starting bloom and there is plenty of varied sunlight through the day. The one element that has made this new confinement sort of bearable is weather has been amazing since we started the lockdown.

April 2020
A month at home, certainly a bit different to what we are used to, thanks to everyone for all the messages. Plenty to do at home with photography. There is one advantage with photography that you can take photos anywhere, of anything. Home photography is good practice, maybe a little makeshift studio or in the garden if you are lucky enough to have a garden, is all possible. It keeps the mind active and the creativity flowing. Whether it be macro or just straight studies, there is always something to try out. Stay safe everyone.
 March 2020
Well we did get snow in February, everyone had a great time up in the Cairngorms. Skye was early March so we concluded that workshop safely. We had some great light and everyone took some superb shots.

Any questions about the workshops, either that you are booked on
or a new enquiry please just email me.

Take care everyone, stay at home where absolutely possible and stay safe.

Post Production Sessions from Home
In the meantime however, if anyone wants a free Post Production session on Photoshop, editing images, ideas and techniques, I am conducting sessions via Zoom, just contact me by email,

February 2020
Up to the Cairngorms and it does look like snow is coming, not sure how much but a definite possibility.
January 2020
Off to Assynt, to start the photographic year with a little snow, it looks warm at the moment, so probably not, may have to wait until February for a little flurry.
Ardvreck Castle - Loch Assynt- A dark and moody day in January, it was a biting cold wind.

December 2019
The month has started off with some excellent conditions. Yes we have had plenty of rain but there is more snow around. Giving plenty of mood, as we say in the landscape photography game. Here's to the month continuing in the same vein.
Here is a great shot from the December Skye workshop, capturing all the mood of the location

November 2019
Lots of different images available in November, from landscape, more mist and fog, even some interesting street photography. It has been a real transition of the seasons this month. Sun, autumn colours with snow at the end of the month, signalling the onset of winter. Fantastic opportunities everywhere you set out with the camera.
October 2019
Autumn has proved very interesting this year, plenty of colour in places, plenty of wind and rain too. All the autumn workshop photographer's got plenty of varied images, some great photography made by everyone. It looks like there will be plenty of colour well into November.

September 2019
The end of summer leading into early Autumn, what I call the start of the photographic seasons. The light getting lower, moving across the earth in a lower arc, the air turning colder, all these things get the artistic excitement rising in anticipation.
August 2019
The heather is a little patchy at the minute, one days its warm, the next day it's raining and cold, bit of a weird summer for the heat. All of which isn't helping the colours. Not quite sure what it's going to do to the autumn colours, with all the rain it should prove good. All the moisture in the ground should help prolong the colour bringing it out later in the year at the end of October, early November.
Summer Shropshire
July 2019
Summer rolls into town and it must be time to do a little street photography. The trees are in full leaf, so I tend to do any landscape early in the morning, its always very quiet and there is a chance of a little mist and the occasional reflection.
Not too long now when the heather will be out and bring in some superb colour into our images.
Grasmere Summer Dawn
June 2019
Keep on rocking in the free world!, not sure where that came from, well I do, obviously it's Neil Young, but it just popped into my head. Anyway, back to what I was going to type, not long back from Iceland, superb again, delivered on all levels. The weather was great, superb light, everyone melted their memory cards, didn't really see any rain, and we pretty much got everywhere we wanted to, excellent.

May 2019
Well the Bluebells and wild flowers arrived eventually in places, not a super strong showing this year, I think the dry weather didn't help earlier in the year. Low down proved popular, even broke out the vintage lenses.
The shot below was taken with an old Canon 50mm lens from the 1960's, it's amazing what you can still pick up and make interesting images with an old lens.
April 2019
Warmth is returning to the sun once more, the Bluebells and wildflowers are springing up, more opportunities for photography in the landscape. Not just the wide open vista but the intimate portrait is always welcome. It's great being close up with objects or flowers, shooting into the light, maybe even after rain, a perfect way to spend a Spring day
March 2019
March did its usual trick, just when you think it may get a little warmer, winter kicked back in. The landscape photography was back at full throttle. Skye was superb, great images all over the island, you can see at times like this, why it's a magnet for photographers and artists.
